In 2023, the Pakistan Eye Bank Society joined hands with a group of enthusiastic volunteers from Los Angeles to commence “Gift of Vision” project wherein we hold Eye Camps and perform surgery In remote areas and restore sight of persons who are unable to travel to the city. PEBS Hospital is located in the suburbs of Karachi, mostly inhabited by the underprivileged class hence more medical facilities became a need of time. We started a Dental & Maxillofacial Unit that catered to a large population due to the absence of quality Dental treatment. In the next phase, a Cardiac Unit was added wherein consultancy for Cardiac and Diabetic disorders is being provided. We have added new equipment to this unit as our measure towards continuous improvement. More recently in 2021, a fully operational Dialysis Unit was formed with dedicated technical staff to perform Dialysis absolutely free of cost. The Unit has six Dialysis machines that provide relief to patients. A revolutionary step was taken when the Oral Cancer Surgery Unit commenced functioning in March 2023. Cancer is a deadly disease, causing extreme pain and anguish not only to the patient but to his entire family. Cancer treatment brings huge financial liabilities for the patient and his family. Salutations to the entire team and patrons which enabled us to perform Oral Cancer surgeries totally free of cost. Community Outreach Program is our flagship project under which early detection of Eye disorders are assessed amongst school children. Our team pays periodic visits to different schools and not only performs eye checks but also train school teachers to conduct the same themselves. In this way, we empower the teachers. So far around 3500 schoolteachers have been trained. More than 65000 children have gone through our eye testing procedure. Pakistan Eye Bank Society has been amongst the first ones to come to help people in calamity-hit areas. Our teams arranged a number of Medical Camps during the floods. In such disastrous times, we assisted by providing on-the-spot treatment, medicines, and ration bags. Being amongst the oldest NGOs, service to humanity marches forward with the dedicated commitment of our team members. I must say with clear distinction that our Society has been at the helm of steadfast service in continuity.
